I think it's Smythe, not Smyth. Otherwise a pretty awesome article.

Don’t you worry about what Jimmy Boy says about you Pepe. We still love you in NJ and you were ‘chippy’ not dirty. (Side note: Pretending Avs/Wings fisticuffs did not happen)

I don't follow Corsi or advanced stats much. But, my guess is Claude would NOT be one of the better advanced stats guys during his good years in NJ or Colorado. Maybe he was. I dunno. But somehow I doubt it.

Still. He was worth well above any Corsi rating. The energy he brought, the keeping opposition looking over their shoulders and playing tentatively, the timely goals and increased productivity during the most crucial times.

CLAUDE LEMIEUX may be one of the best examples of showing that although Corsi and other advanced stats can be a great help, the "eye test" and just watching how players can influence a game can be just as, if not more, important.

I would take a Claude Lemieux on my team for a 7 games playoff series above MANY other "star" players. regardless of Corsi or point totals.

A true playoff warrior. Oh, and I hated the lil fuqqer when he played.....just saying!

For any series I have watched since wayyyyy back to the early 70's....THIS has to be one of the most FUN ones I have ever seen. Two real good teams. Great skill. Hall of Famers aplenty. No "staged" events. The "Hate" was real. The passion real. As somebody who was a fan of neither team, and disliked neither team....This was a great series to watch just on "hockey" alone. It had EVERYTHING.

I know Claude got a lot of poop about this 'fight' over his years but lets at least be honest about it. McCarthy couldn't play hockey for poop and his job was to punch people. Claude was at least a real hockey player and a damn good one.

I'm always honest. McCarty could at least take a regular shift and score the odd goal for his team. He was a key part of the "Grind Line" which played a key role for the Red Wings. He wasn't a goon. He was also a guy like Claude who would raise his game in the playoffs. He wasn't in Claude's league in terms of talent. But you don't win 4 Cups by being a "$hit" player. That's ridiculous.

That's a "$hit" comment from you. It's McCarty by the way. Not McCarthy. McCarty served Claude his lunch a year after Claude plastered Draper from behind into the boards like the weasel he was breaking his jaw and pretty much his entire face. It was well deserved. Live by the sword. Die by the sword. I do give credit to Claude for fighting McCarty the next season. I'm guessing he had no choice to save face with his teammates. But he still did it. McCarty was a heart and soul player who'd go through a wall for his team. Any team in the league would've taken him. Just like Claude.

Absolutely spot on.
I never liked the way Lemieux played and his cheap shot on Draper was the worst play I've seen aside from Hunter on Turgeon. Once they reconstructed his face, Draper didn't even look like the same person. Lemieux deserved everything he got for that and more.

p.s. - maybe he was talking about Sandy McCarthy? He was a poop player!
